ABOUT THE ARCHIVE
Every artwork begins as an unsolved case.
A photograph. An old illustration. A chair that feels wrong. A doorway that shouldn't exist. Fragments arrive without explanation, and the investigation begins.
I don't know what the finished artwork will look like. I don't always know what the mystery is.
That's what I'm here to find out.
Every change is entered into the record. Clues emerge. Leads go nowhere. Red herrings waste perfectly good hours. Occasionally something appears that changes the entire investigation.
The complete trail is preserved in the Archive: the evidence, the dead ends, the breakthroughs, the questions, and the final artwork.
Because the finished image isn't the investigation.
It's the solved case.

LEAD INVESTIGATOR: WINDY CRAIG
I'm Windy Craig, artist and Lead Investigator of the Archive of Impossible Cases.
I’ve always been interested in the things that don’t quite make sense. Strange details. Unlikely combinations. Doors that seem to lead somewhere they shouldn’t. The ordinary thing that suddenly feels a little bit wrong.
I make surreal collages in Photoshop, but I rarely begin with a plan for the finished image. I start with something that catches my attention and follow it. One image leads to another. Things appear, disappear, refuse to cooperate, or completely change the direction of the piece.
Eventually I realized I wasn’t just making artwork.
I was investigating it.
So I built the Archive of Impossible Cases, a place to preserve the entire investigation instead of showing only the finished image. The evidence, wrong turns, questions, breakthroughs, and strange little accidents all belong here.
I’m interested in curiosity, mystery, and the kind of wonder that makes you stop for a second and look again.
I don’t always know what I’m looking for.
That’s why I investigate.
